'%Application for project is not installed for .vbproj' ERROR Mess

Newbie question regarding project development in Visual Studio 2005.
In experimenting with SQL Express 2005 for SQL Server Reporting Services, I
believe only a small runtime component of Visual Studio 2005 necessary for
SSRS report development is installed with SQL Express 2005 per the suggested
companion software download on the SQL Express MSDN website.

I have been assigned responsibility for an existing Visual Studio 2005
(.vbproj) and on attempting to open with my current VS2005, I receive the
error that the Application for .vbproj development is not installed.
My questions are:
1. Can the .vbproj application be added to my current instance of VS2005?
2. If not, can I install VS2005 Professional Ed. over my current VS2005 or
should I remove it and possibly both it and SQL Express 2005 in order to get
a clean install?

This is on a Win XP SP2, Dell Optiplex 745 desktop

Followup to my original post...

Am I able to install the SQL Server 2005 Developer Tools (Visual Studio
2005, specifically) without having to Un-install SQL Express 2005?
What setup settings must I configure when wanting only to install Visual
Studio 2005 component from the 'SQL Server 2005 Applications Developer Tools'?

Second Followup...

Was able to get Visual Studio 2005 installed on spare (older) client
desktop...
Still encountering same error: %Application for .vbproj type not installed

Found repair article indicating %Re-install of .NET Framework 2.0 required.
Can't re-install .NET v2.0 because .NET v2.0 SP1 installed but can't remove
.NET v2.0 SP1 because %Other applications might not work if removed.

Any ideas?
